Now Ejaz Butt has been retired and Afridi took back his decision.

New PCB Chairman, Zaka Ashraf given him green signal and at last Shahid Afridi has been called for the T20/ODI series vs Sri Lanka at UAE 2011/2012.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test Statistical Highlights Score card Match Result Presentation

Sri Lanka got out of jail in Abu Dhabi through the partnership between Sanga and Prasanna and all those dropped catches from Pakistan, This time Pakistan held their catches, Misbah leading the way at first slip. They have clearly been the better side over the two Tests by a fair distance and now lead 1-0 going in to the final game in Sharjah.

We are getting done with some ‘special’ awards at the moment, for fours, sixes and special performances.

Mohammad Hafeez walks back to applause, his captain welcomes him with a smile and a hug, he gets a bigger one from coach Mohsin Khan. He ensured Pakistan breezed through this small chase with a day and nine wickets to spare.

Match Presentation:

Misbah: “Credit to the team, they have been playing good cricket for the last year and a half. Everyone is fulfilling responsibilities and that makes it an easy job for me. I am happy about that [captaincy record]. Whatever we have played here, we know that this wicket, in the later part of the Test, it turns. But the initiative given by the fast bowlers was the key for us. That gave us the sniff to win this match. Win is always good for the team, and it is reward for the hard work we are putting in.”

Dilshan: “We have to put at least some runs on the board. We have to think about the batting, get runs in the first innings, we have to improve. Murali did a great job for us, now we have to carry on with youngsters. Bowlers did a good job keeping them to 400 on a flat wicket. Every time we play four bowlers, I will have to bowl 10-15 overs as support.”

Man of the Match is Saeed Ajmal. Ajmal: “We thought of stopping the flow of runs, and then getting the wickets. Captain told me to stay at the wicket when I was batting. The pitch was very good, for the first three days it was good for batting, we got bounce after that.”

2nd Test: Pakistan v Sri Lanka 2nd Day Statistical Highlights Summary Score Card

Pakistan have added 239 runs today, nothing spectacular but they now lead by 42. They could have been further in front but Dilshan got crucial breakthroughs in the second and third sessions. Azhar Ali gritted it out for his maiden Test hundred, that will be a huge relief for him, Misbah is looking solid as always and Pakistan will depend on him to build the lead tomorrow.

Sri Lanka are still chasing this game but they are not out of it. The three fast bowlers did well in the morning session, but they were denied by Azhar and Younis in the second and got tired after tea with the second new ball being taken as soon as it was available.

Pakistan’s day, apart from a brief period when they were frustrated by Welegedara and Herath. Gul, Junaid, Ajmal and Rehman getting enough out of the surface to bowl Sri Lanka out for what is an inadequate total. Sri Lanka did not get as much movement with the new ball, and Taufeeq and Hafeez were positive in the nine overs left.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test Sri Lanka 1st Innings batting Score Card

Saeed Ajmal finally gets his last man in 1st innings of Sri Lanka, after an age of beating the outside edge with doosras, he floats it up and lures Welegedara outside his crease for the big shot, turns away past the outside edge, and Adnan does the rest.

The last two wickets have put on 85 runs but Pakistan would have taken 239 all out when they lost the toss on what looked to be a batting surface. There was help with the new ball though, and Umar Gul and Junaid Khan have set up the game for their batsmen again.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test Toss Report:

Sri Lanka win the toss and will have a bat

Tillakaratne Dilshan: “It is a very good wicket, hopefully we can put some runs on the board.” Prasanna Jayawardene is out with a groin injury. Kaushal Silva makes his debut. Dhammika Prasad is also in for Nuwan Pradeep

Misbah-ul-Haq: “Our plan was also to bat first, it takes a bit of turn later on. Last time we played here, we batted the entire fifth day losing only one wicket. These things are usually said after the match (Pakistan’s slow batting in the first Test), there is chance of improvement.” Abdur Rehman is in for, surprise, surprise, Aizaz Cheema, who bowled with every bit of energy he had in him in the first Test. Well, there had better be a very strong reason behind that. Maybe Pakistan think another specialist spinner will take the load off Saeed Ajmal, especially if they believe that the pitch will turn more than the Abu Dhabi one did.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test 1st Session:

Session 1 in Dubai to Umar Gul and Junaid Khan, they have missed a third fast bowler, they have missed the energy of Aizaz Cheema, but they have bowled ten overs each to send half the Sri Lanka side back. Pakistan could have had Sangakkara as well, but then that would have been almost the perfect session. Forget the retirement of Muralitharan blunting the bowling attack, Sri Lanka have collapsed too often in recent times and the batting should be as big, if not a bigger, worry.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test Match Preview:

Pakistan after having strong position in first test could not prolong it till the last day when their fielding became so poor and dropped so many important catches which could have led them to the first victory in desert. Taufeeq Umar marvelous batting and double century was an impressive mark after a Younis Khan’s triple century some few years ago.

Taufeeq Umar, Muhammad Hafeez and Younis Khan are again the key players for the Pakistan in 2nd Test match too. They will need to stay at the wicket to support their follower batsmen to give Sri Lanka a huge total 2 times a match.
