The captains, the two most successful Test bowlers among active practitioners, two men who have of late found more success in limited-overs cricket than Tests. Will they continue to be restricting men or will they attack? As captains they have made glaring errors in this tournament, but both are coming off inspirational and eventually decisive moves in the semi-finals. Daniel Vettori opened the bowling with Dilshan, who went for 10 runs in his four overs on a 10-an-over night. Harbhajan Singh surprised all by tossing the ball to James Franklin in the crucial 19th over of his semi-final: seven runs and two wickets later he stood vindicated.
Malinga v Gayle, Dilshan and Kohli. MI will have to win this particular contest comprehensively if they have to win the Champions League. Royal Challengers will happily take four overs for 24 runs and no wickets. Malinga will have to make it more dramatic.

Team news

The Royal Challengers face a familiar dilemma. S Aravind has now gone for 124 runs in his last eight overs. Although the Chennai pitch will be kinder to him, will the Royal Challengers invest more trust in the man who must be low on confidence by now? They also need to figure out if their policy of stacking the side up with batsmen will work in Chennai. However, if needed, they can always count on Dilshan and Gayle to bowl at least one bowler’s quota if not more.
MI have a non-fucntioning wicketkeeper and a near non-functioning middle order, but they have neither time nor replacements. They should go with the same XI that beat Somerset on Saturday.

Players to watch:

MI: Mumbai, on the other hand, has the best weapon that can neutralize the Gayle factor, Lasith Malinga. The slinger was devastating in the semi final and his opening spell might just decide the game.

RCB: The Bangalore team, despite having a bevy of match winners, is a one man army. Since Gayle joined RCB, there has hardly been any match which RCB won without a major contribution from him. The big Jamaican, who ended up as the most valuable player in IPL 2011, will once again be the centre of attraction when he takes guard.

Chennai Cricket Stadium Pitch Report:  Both teams posses quality spinners and undoubtedly the skipper winning the toss will look to bat first. The pitch is a typical subcontinent pitch, slow and low one on which grafting runs is more effective than stroke play.

Prediction: The top 3 in the RCB line-up have the ability to win the match single handedly but if they fail to make an impact, Mumbai could well romp to a win. [Mumbai vs Bangalore CLT20 Final astrological/Numerology Predictions] Having played before on this Chennai track will make a huge difference to the outcome of the match, and that makes Mumbai slender favorites to lift the trophy.

CLT20 2nd Semi Final Result: Mumbai Indians qualifies for CLT20 Final 2011/12

Mumbai Indians win CLT20 2011 2nd Semi Final

Mumbai are in to the final. It is that 19th over again, helped of course by Malinga’s unplayable missiles on either side.

Post Match Presentation:

Harbhajan: “We won the toss and it was a bat-first wicket. This was a better wicket than earlier ones. We got to a total where we could defend. Malinga and Franklin were fantastic in the end

Thomas: “We have just finished pushing a very very top team. Obviously gutted but we have provided some good entertainment. That guy Malinga is a quality performer.

Mumbai are in to the all-IPL final. It is that 19th over again, bowled by Franklin, helped of course by Malinga;s unplayable missiles on either side. 160 was going to be tough with Malinga’s four overs to contend with. 4 for 20, all dismissals bowled. Priceless in this format

Franklin: “I think it was a bit last-minute [decision]. Bhajji had faith in me. Good to come on the right side of it. It was Bhajji’s decision. Couple of overs ago, it was supposed to be Pollard. Malinga is awesome, he is one of the bests pace bowlers in the world.”

Match Presenation

Virat Kohli is the Man of the Match.

Virat Kohli: “Two nights ago I said it happens once in a while, we have done it again. i went in with a mindset to play myself in, I was not desperate to score but I got the right cricket shots. Chris has the ability to give a 25-run over. The other day I made a mistake trying to go for a six off the strike bowler [Tait]. This time I decided to play two dot balls. That [game against South Australia] will still be the best, this can be second-best I think.”

Vettori, who is still padded up: “Amazing games both. Its tough for the bowlers but it must be amazing to watch. Two hundred is a par score here. It was tough to be belted over the park but we managed to get home tonight. they are confident enough to back their games but you have still to play exceptionally well. It is pure batsmanship and its enthralling to watch. Some of the bowlers will look forward to not playing here.”

Katich: “Virat was brilliant, Gayle was awesome, We tried different lengths, different paces, it was a big learning experience for the young bowlers, probably a couple of dropped catches cost us today. Earlier on the ball was holding up a bit.”

RCB are taking a lap around the Chinnaswamy Stadium. David Warner is gutted, he is down on the ground

Twice in three days, RCB have withstood the onslaught of an opposition batsman’s century. They haven’t had any of their own, but they have Virat Kohli and they have Chris Gayle and Tillakaratne Dilshan. They might as well do away with their bowlers. And then maybe not. The final will be at a different ground, on a different pitch. But for the moment, they are on top of the T20 franchise world, having successfully chased 200 on consecutive occasions.
